When buying a new floor this is one detail a lot of people won’t really know how to do. Although it is the most important by far, with this, there are a lot of unique measurements that need to be taken. If you have never actually done this before it can prove a difficult task.

Firstly, you must draw up the floorplan of the desired room. It is very important that you make it accurate. It doesn’t have to be to scale just very accurate Make sure to include all the details in the room such as curves in the walls or windows.

Then you need to start measuring. Start by measuring the shortest width and length of the room. Then multiply them together to get the overall area of the room. You can then record this and put it down onto the drawing.

This next bit can prove a little more difficult. We will now deal with any curves in the room such as bay windows or corners created by any walls. To measure the corners you must do the same as you did with the whole room and multiply the length by the width and then the answer will be the area of that small corner. With rounded area’s this will take a bit more calculation, as the same previously measure the width and length of it. Make sure you only measure the bits that haven’t been measured. Then you must do the following calculation; cut the length by half and times that by your width. Then times it by PI (3.14). Only half of the circle will be probably needed so you must then divide this in half. If the circle isn’t in half, it can only be taken as a rough estimate.
